I am grateful to announce that J.D. Kim Ministries will be hosting a presentation on the suffering of North Koreans co-sponsored by Denver Seminary Asian Initiative. Mr. Shin, who defected from North Korea a few years ago, will be our presenter and share with us about his experience of growing up in a North Korean prison camp.
As many of us are aware, our North Korean brothers and sisters are going through tremendous and horrific afflictions physically, psychologically, and spiritually. According to Prayer Cast, “It is estimated that over the past fifteen years, two million North Koreans have died due to food shortages…The North Korean government has been accused of torture, slavery, public executions, forced abortions, infanticides, as well as detaining possibly 200,000 political prisoners” (www.prayercast). Also, Open Doors reports, “Christians are seen as hostile elements in society that have to be eradicated” (www.opendoorsusa.org).
Over the years, many brave North Koreans defected from the vicious regime, taking the risk of being tortured to death, deported to labor camps, or killed on the spot. Recently, I met Mr. Shin, one of these North Korean defectors. He suffered so much pain while growing up in a North Korean prison camp and experienced many types of hardships. Being moved by the grace of God, he made a difficult decision to share his testimony with us. It will be a great and humble time for us to learn in firsthand about the brutal conditions that our North Korean brothers and sisters are going through every day, so that we can pray fervently and sincerely to our sovereign and loving God for the transformation of the nation.
We will be meeting at Denver Seminary chapel at 9:00 am on April 20, 2019. Starting with a praise and worship, we will hear his testimony and have a time for a Q&A. Then, we will have an early lunch and a time of fellowship with one another. I hope many of you can come to the presentation and stay for fellowship. Please RSVP for attendance and lunch.
