King’s Table Asia

A Church Where Everyone Belongs

King’s Table Asia is a Christian ministry dedicated to equipping churches with a biblical understanding of suffering and disability and serving disability communities throughout Asia (Watch the introduction video).

We envision churches where people with and without disabilities worship, learn, serve, and participate together as indispensable members of the body of Christ.

Founded by Dr. J. D. Kim, King’s Table Asia works alongside churches, ministry leaders, and local partners to advance theological education, strengthen disability ministry, and provide practical support to individuals and families affected by disability.

The Vision Behind the King’s Table

The name King’s Table Asia is inspired by the story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9. Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul, lived with a physical disability and had experienced significant loss and marginalization. Yet King David welcomed him, restored what had been taken from him, and invited him to eat regularly at the king’s table.

The significance of this invitation extended beyond receiving assistance. Mephibosheth was welcomed into a place of belonging, fellowship, and dignity.

This biblical image reminds us that the church should be more than a place where people with disabilities receive care from others. It should be a community where they are welcomed, valued, heard, and recognized as full participants in the life and mission of God’s people.

At the King’s table, people are not defined by physical ability, social status, or perceived limitations. They are received as people created in the image of God and invited to participate in the fellowship of his kingdom.

Why This Ministry Matters

Around the world, people with disabilities and their families frequently encounter barriers that extend beyond physical accessibility.

Some experience social isolation, limited educational opportunities, or assumptions that disability prevents meaningful participation in church and community life. Others are welcomed into church buildings but remain separated from the congregation, with few opportunities to join small groups, develop relationships, exercise their gifts, or serve in leadership.

Even when churches care deeply, they may lack the theological understanding, practical training, or resources needed to create genuine belonging.

King’s Table Asia exists to help address these challenges.

We believe disability should not be treated as a reason for shame, exclusion, or diminished dignity. Nor should people with disabilities be viewed only as recipients of ministry.

Scripture describes the church as one body with many members, each needed for the flourishing of the whole. The apostle Paul writes that the parts of the body that appear weaker are indispensable.

When people with disabilities are excluded, the church does not merely fail to serve them. It also fails to receive the gifts, perspectives, and contributions God has given through them.

Our goal is not simply to establish separate programs. It is to help churches become communities where people with and without disabilities belong, grow, and serve together.

Our Ministry

King’s Table Asia pursues its mission through two complementary areas of work.

King’s Institute: Theological Education

King’s Institute equips pastors, ministry leaders, churches, and individuals to understand suffering and disability through Scripture and Christian theology.

The institute develops educational resources and training opportunities that address questions such as:

  • How should Christians understand suffering in light of God’s goodness and sovereignty?

  • What does it mean that every person is created in the image of God?

  • How should churches respond to disability, illness, and human vulnerability?

  • What is the relationship between healing, faith, and Christian hope?

  • How can congregations move beyond sympathy toward genuine belonging and participation?

  • How can people with disabilities contribute their gifts to the worship, leadership, and mission of the church?

Through teaching, seminars, articles, videos, and ministry resources, King’s Institute seeks to help the church respond to suffering and disability with theological depth, pastoral sensitivity, and gospel-centered hope.

King’s Mission: Partnership and Practical Support

King’s Mission Network works with churches, ministries, and community partners to serve people with disabilities and their families throughout Asia.

Its initiatives include:

  • Building partnerships with local churches and disability ministries.

  • Encouraging churches to welcome and include people with disabilities.

  • Supporting pastors and ministry leaders who serve disability communities.

  • Providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation equipment through trusted ministry partners.

  • Developing networks of prayer, collaboration, and practical support.

  • Connecting individuals and families with resources that promote dignity, mobility, and participation.

A wheelchair or rehabilitation device can provide more than physical assistance. It can make it possible for someone to attend church, participate in community life, pursue education, and build meaningful relationships.

However, practical support is only part of the vision. Our deeper commitment is to help cultivate communities where every person is welcomed and valued.

Our Partnership with J.D. Kim Ministries

J.D. Kim Ministries and King’s Table Asia are distinct organizations united by a shared commitment to the gospel, theological education, and the dignity of people with disabilities.

J.D. Kim Ministries is a U.S.-based Christian nonprofit organization that provides biblical and theological resources and supports ministry initiatives consistent with its charitable mission.

Through its partnership with King’s Table Asia, J.D. Kim Ministries supports theological education, church development, disability ministry, and practical initiatives serving communities in South Korea and throughout Asia.

This partnership also enables churches and individuals in the United States to participate in ministry that strengthens the church and serves people with disabilities internationally.
